Our History

Varex Imaging Corporation has a rich history of experience dating back to the 1930s, when Jack McCullough and Bill Eitel created Eimac Products. Eimac quickly became known for producing high-quality, high-power transmitter tubes and relocated its manufacturing operations to Utah after receiving a large military contract in 1941.

Foreseeing the end of the war, Eimac Products began to expand its expertise to include new tube types, such as television cathode ray tubes (CRT) and microwave tubes for radar applications. Eventually, Eimac would merge with Varian in 1965.

As Varian grew to a global household name in X-ray imaging, it became apparent that a “spin-off” company would be needed to operate and hold its ever-expanding imaging components business. For this purpose, Varian Medical Systems created Varex Imaging Corporation on January 1, 2017. Together, the two companies can concentrate their efforts on the unique needs of each business and pursue distinct opportunities for long-term growth and profitability in the imaging industry.
